Count Yer Kerns, People

One time, we counted over $76 in kerns (coins) at my friend's house. It was all over the dusty hardwood floor, the staircase, behind the couch, under the couch, inside the couch... it was ridiculous.

We took the coins to the Harris Teeter kern machine (coin machine) and promptly deposited it into the bank. That was about 15 years ago. While it's good we rescued the kerns from the couch cushions where the value was depreciating daily, had we put it in an a low-cost index fund, it would have grown to about $210 today. That's the difference between 7,600 packs of Maruchan chicken ramen and 210,000 packs of Maruchan chicken ramen.

With them numbers, who needs Costco? UPDATE: Oh hells no, Costco doesn't even have Maruchan. Do not eat Top Ramen, people! Do not!!

Bankrate.com has some really handy tools. Check out this handy dandy ROI Calculator to see how I came up with my ramen calculation.
